Who leaves you the most money?

Short answer

Claiming yourself keeps 100%. Among services, the lowest published fee we found is 30% and the most common is 35%, with an extra 10–20% at most services if a court case is needed. On a €600 claim, you keep between €390 and €420 with a service.

Disclosure: we earn a commission if you start a claim with Compensair or AirHelp through our buttons. You pay the same. It never changes the order below.

How to choose

Three questions

  1. Did the airline already admit it was their fault? Technical problem, crew shortage, own staff strike: claim yourself first. You will probably be paid without a fight.
  2. Did the airline refuse, blame the weather, or ignore you? A service is worth its fee: they know which excuses hold and go to court when they don't.
  3. Do you fly several times a year? A membership with no fees per claim, such as AirHelp+, can cost less than one commission.
